Foundry is Palantir's commercial data-integration and operations platform — the product behind most of the company's growth outside government and defense work.

What it actually does

Foundry connects to an organization's existing systems — ERP software, databases, IoT sensor streams — through more than 200 built-in connectors, using automated, low-code pipelines to unify structured and unstructured data into one place. Rather than just storing that data, Foundry is built to let both technical and non-technical staff build applications and workflows directly on top of it, turning raw information into something people can act on day to day.

The Ontology: Foundry's core concept

At the center of Foundry sits what Palantir calls the Ontology — a structured layer that maps an organization's data into "objects" representing real-world things (a customer, a machine, an order), along with their properties and the relationships between them. Foundry's design emphasizes role-based permissions, end-to-end data lineage, and real-time workload management using processing engines like Apache Spark and Flink. Palantir has stated the platform adheres to principles like data minimization and purpose specification, with governance controls intended to manage sensitive data responsibly across its full lifecycle from ingestion to deletion.

Commercial growth and adoption

Foundry has become the backbone of Palantir's commercial business. Reporting on the company's mid-2025 results described U.S. commercial revenue climbing sharply year over year, with named customers like Lear Corporation expanding Foundry deployments across manufacturing, procurement, and finance functions. Palantir has continued building on the platform, including a 2025 "Foundry DevOps" launch aimed at streamlining how enterprise teams deliver and maintain their own Foundry-built applications.
